Can I update this VCDS HEX-CAN clone? - jfim88 - 20-12-2023
Hi guys,
I have an original HEX V2 interface, but I also have a HEX+CAN clone I bought before. It comes with VCDS 12.12 version and the instructions says to do not update to prevent blocking.
Can I use it with newer versions of VCDS with a loader?
I'll leave photos of the dongle here.

No one can tell you for sure - because only clone manufacturer knows how bad/good chips are on this board. You would have to try..
Thankfully, this board design have header points prepared to recover this tool in case it bricks after update.
I have very similarly looking clone, it came with the latest available FW (1.96, I think..), running VCDS 19.x-23.x just fine.
It's worth a try. In the worst case scenario, you would have to recover it to original FW via header.
There are enough guides around on flashing these clones with a programmer.

No, for the Gen1 VCDS clone, only the ATMEGA 162 chip clone could be upgrade.
From you picture, it's not.
And another way to indentify, if you plug cable only on usb port and the led on cable is on, it's bad clone couldn't be upgraded.

Your clone is one with NEC chipset that can't be upgraded and it is full of bugs. One of the worse chinese clones ever made. Keep it for spare parts or throw it away
