EGR delete (/block) on a VW BKD engine
A mechanic told me that I just could block the EGR inlet/exhaust manifold connecting pipe...
(I have now found several kits on ie. eBay.)
But is that really enough?

Isn't it necessary to code/remap the ECU?
If not - Is it then safe to drive with, and for how long if not forever?
If yes - Can it be done at home with ie. VCDS?

The reason why I'm considering this, is because I'm trying to figure out a water loss.
He said it could be the EGR, since there are no signs of leaking water.
(Other than white smoke when turning on the engine and about the first 60 seconds of driving.)

Afterwards, the car runs as it should!
But it do have "huge" trouble turning on the engine!
It sounds/feels like low battery and can take up to 30 seconds...
(That, i do think is because tired starter! (The battery are brand new!))

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand?
So it is necessary to remap the ECU, when deleting/blocking/blanking the EGR inlet/exhaust pipe?

What do you mean by "hot start" and which program do I need to read out my ECU?

Hi remapping Ecu is to stop the eml warning egr has insufficient air flow because it's has been blocked.
I have blocked my egr on audi A3 2.0 bkd and have eml on put vagcom on and it's the egr.
I need hardware and software to program ecu plus knowledge don't want to brick it.
My bkd also has problem starting when hot 90° maybe it might be "hot start". Kess v2 hardware with program and volta for egr and hot start. Maybe better options out there?
I'm learning too.

Hi,

Thanks for pointing it out... (:
But I understand that remapping is (mostly) for turning of the EML.
I was just curious to know if it were necessary to remap ECU or if the car still could be used as normal, when blanking the pipe.
(Didn't care about if the EML would turn on.)

But a friend told me for a couple of days ago, that it wasn't possible just blanking the EGR pipe.
He said the ECU/engine would go into "limp mode", is what I think it's called?

But it sounds like you still can use your car?

But after what my friend told, I haven't done anything yet, and won't, since I think my cylinder head is broken... rofl

About a program to remap the ECU, volavka suggested "ADS Professional Remover for DPF/EGR/Lambda/Adblue/Flap/Hotstart/DTC"

RE: EGR delete (/block) on a VW BKD engine
First you need a good device for reading, writing your ecu. Than you can get rid of MIL and you can make Hot Start Fix.
I can do this all for you but I need car or at least ecu.
If you're interested, just let me know. The main thing would be: Where are you located?
