Can ISTA/P be used to program a used DME from another car to work on my car?
Hi,
I replacing the DME on my car with another DME from a donor car. The DME that I am putting in is used, and already has ISN (Rolling Code) from the donor car EWS/CAS stored in it. I want to make the used DME work in my car. Can I use ISTA/P and select module replaced when ISTA/P starts, and then choose DME replaced, and hopefully it will read my ISN (Rolling Code) from my CAS and write to the DME memory? And then after that the car will start because I will have the ISN code synchronised between the used replacement DME and my CAS. The car is a 2007 E92 335i (VIN: P053520). Thanks, Peter |

nope, its not working that way. You can use ISTA-P only with virginized ecu. If there is already ISN, ISTA cant overwrite it.
Virginize ecu or change ISN in CAS/EGS |

You need a program like AUTOHEX or CGDI, or to outsource the ISN work to someone with those programs.
The simple option would be to read the ISN off the DME, and write it to the CAS. Are you staying with an MSD80, or upgrading to MSD81 |

If you're in the US, I can help you with that. I usually write your original ISN to the used DME, keeping the car original. (Edit.. I see your VIN says it is a euro car)
Reasoning is that if ever you need to replace your CAS, the dealer will pre program it with the car's original ISN, and you'll have to go through the same exact process again if you use a different car's ISN. |

Is old ECU 100% dead or you can make diagnostics? If alive, read with KTAG full BDM read and write to new/used ECU. Should work.

What tools do I need to virginise the ECU? I have an ICOM, ISTA, Tool32, BMW Standard Tools... etc. (06-02-2019, 16:01 PM)RocketSurgeon Wrote: You need a program like AUTOHEX or CGDI, or to outsource the ISN work to someone with those programs. Are these programs only a software? Or also a hardware? Can I try to find these programs online, and download them, and use them with my ICOM cable and make it work? I think I might be able to find Autohex online. And yes I am upgrading from MSD80 to MSD81. (06-02-2019, 17:44 PM)Enabled Wrote: If you're in the US, I can help you with that. This ECU is not your typical tricore ecu. There is some difficult encryption involved, for inexplicable reasons. There is no easy BDM or virginizing.
Peter, if you want me to transfer your original ISN into your spare MSD81, send me a PM. At least one module would need to be posted to me. |
