I'm a bit lost for now...
If i buy a china clone interface, i could use vcds 12.12 modified ? Is it true ? But, is there exisitng meds for vcds 12.12 ?

Recently purchased a VAG12.12 cable from China but it won't work.
During the required cable test the it fails with the message "Interface: Not Found!", this is with the cable plugged into the car during the test as required. However, if I disconnect the cable from the car and test again, I get the message "Interface: Found!" and it still errors but correctly with "Status: Not plugged into car!".

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

The Chinese made VAG cables, it dosen't work becouse it hase FAKE Software of the Genuine Roos Tech, Co. USA. It's useless and worthless garbage. Try to get refund of seller for it.

I use GENUINE ros tech software with my clone 12.12 tool. So is there some good seller too......

Guys if you don't know allready about how the genuine tools are please let me tell you
There' are two kind of tools
1. Old stuff with FTDI BM ( BL ) inside
2. New style with FTDI RQ inside

Now if you have a dump from number one then the clones (with BL/BM ) can works directlly with the original softwear from ross-tech
But if you use this dump with a RL tool then you need a loader to use your clone or to mode (use meds) the softwears
If you have a dump from new style of genuine tool then this dump it is marriaged with the FTDI RQ ID. In this case you cannot use the original softwear not moded ( craked ) with no matter what kind of clone do you use ( BL/BM/RL) just because as I said the Atmega dump it is "marriaged" with the FTDI ID
With other words if you want to make a clone to works with this dump you need to bypass the FTDI ID
Example: if you have two genuine new style VCDS tools and you want to change the Atmega from one to the other one and vice-versa, then both tools will not works
Conclusion you'll get it by yourself about the softwear that your tools works

Your usb port has a problem ,try another laptop or pc .

it was one of my problem before ... hope is also yours
now it works , just changed laptop .

If someone can send me instructions (FOR DUMMIES) on how to pull dump file off of cable i can share.

You need to use some external programmer for D79F8513A chip, if not locked for reading..

All chips are protected for read even is Nec or Atmega
Tutorial to do this wasn't made and it will not be done ever.
By the way the chip id it is marriaged with ftdi id so you need more then a dump

Update - So I opened the cable and checked. No hot glue found. I also tested the 5v regulator and it works fine. I did notice a few missing parts (an IC and some resistor/capacitors) but nothing else seemed wrong.

I checked again with the supplied software but can not get it to install on my 64 bit system. Windows gives me an error and the software won't start.

I then downloaded the genuine software and tried it again but get the same problems.... "Interface not found!" when the cable is connected to the car and "Interface found" with Status "Not plugged into car!" when testing without plugging the cable into the car. This was the same problem I had when I tested the cable / software on my friend's 32-bit XP laptop using the supplied software. Therefore the problem seems to be the cable. I also tried the 32-bit version of the genuine software using the drivers supplied with the cable and get the same problem. Therefore the drivers seem to be OK and the same as the genuine drivers.

EDIT: I've attached pictures of the board. The missing components are IC8 and D7.

You have a programable interface with software. Only write a license for software version if you use and not connected Interface after to Internet !
