F25 Xenonlight retrofit
Hi, maybe somebody can help out.
BMW X3 F25, originally a US-spec vehicle, imported to an ECE country and retrofitted with complete ECE Bi-Xenon headlights. The vehicle was originally halogen, VO/FA was updated with 522 and the car was coded accordingly. Nearly all lighting functions work, there are no errors in i5тд, and Xenon low beam operates normally. The problem is that the Bi-Xenon shutter is never actuated. When pulling the high-beam/flash stalk, the Xenon low beam is briefly triggered, but the shutter does not open at the same time. The flap inside the projector never moves, under any condition. This happens regardless of light switch position; even with the switch on 0 or parking lights, flash-to-pass only activates Xenon briefly without opening the shutter. Latched high beam behaves the same way. There is no mechanical failure indicated and no fault codes. The car is still fundamentally US-coded, and the headlights are ECE units that rely on the shutter for high beam. This looks like a logic or wiring issue rather than a defective headlight. The retrofit was started by someone else who stopped in the middle of the process and is no longer reachable, so incorrect or missing pinning is very likely. I’m looking for possible causes, especially whether the FRM in a US F25 needs a specific pin assignment or output to drive the Bi-Xenon shutter, and which pin(s) should be checked for shutter activation in an ECE Xenon setup. Any experience with US-to-ECE Xenon retrofits on the F25 would be helpful. Thx BMW Remote Coder, Tuner & Supporter

RE: F25 Xenonlight retrofit
Check the schematics with i5тд and see whether you have a control function directly from the FRM in i5тд / Tool32 for the outputs.

RE: F25 Xenonlight retrofit
The shutter is actuated by TMS module, you have to re-check all schematics and look for a mi5тдke, also need to re-wire from frm to headlight

RE: F25 Xenonlight retrofit
You need to rewire the pins from FRM to the headlight shutter. The pins for halogen high beam and the shutter is not the same

RE: F25 Xenonlight retrofit
Hello,
The headlights are ECE, FA and coding was US - that didn't work. I changed the FA to ECE and coded FRM and both TMS, without success. However, when I coded the junction box to ECE-FA, it displayed various other errors, including the wrong garage opener variant, but the high beam worked. I then readjusted the parameters of the junction box and now the high beam works as it should and the vehicle is error-free. Pin 5 on both connector must have a permanent 12v+ supply, pin 4 is ground and the TMS simply switches the ground internally for high beam. BMW Remote Coder, Tuner & Supporter
