RE: ISTA-D 4.10.15 Standalone.
Right... I hope I can say this, without it sounds like I am complaining. I really appreciate the work being done here. I also understand that quite a few users on this board is on a very high technical level, so it is hard for them to understand why new users fail to get things working. But...
When you are new here, you pretty fast figure out, that there aren’t many complete how-to’s, descriptions or manuals for anything. The regulars have done everything a gazillion times, so it all comes easy to them. If you ask for help installing something, you will get the headlines, or perhaps a link to another thread with a related question. But the full explanation is almost never provided. Just short descriptions, like “you need to edit the xml” aso. But there are so many databases, so many reg fixes, several versions of each application. Complete installer msi, a specific installer and a standalone. It takes forever to figure out what can be used in your specific situation (ICOM, ediabas cable, regged ISPI user aso aso), which databases goes where, how to edit registry and to what values. I have been doing software since forever, including work for most major companies, so when signing up, I figured I could make a few writeups here, when I found out how everything works. After all, I do this for a living... But after reading way more than 50 hours, it seems to me the same questions still is unanswered. This means that for now, I am unable to make these “manuals”, or be brave enough to try updating my currently fully functional ISTA+ 4.09.13, even though two newer versions have been released already. Have I missed something? Does other complete manuals already exist of more than the great FAQ-EN.pdf, that solely can be used on a standalone version of ISTA+, which by the way has to be complete ie no missing databases aso? |
