My idea puting folder 4 on a second stick was not working.
Nothing happend after I inserted the second stick, when I get asked to insert usb 4.

I dont know why my 64gb stick with Fat32 was not working. I tried 3 different formaters.
On a 32GB stick it was working, but not enough room for the whole 4 folder.

Why all people insist on using FAT32?

5 minutes ago I tried a 40GB USB 2 hard drive formated with NTFS.
The 2017-1 update started successful after 3 seconds.

Tomorrow I have a longer distance to drive, I will let it run until finish.

I have to say my car got a full software update by BMW 2 month ago. Maybe the new software i-level added NTFS support. I thought that last year a NTFS formated stick with MP3 music was not recognised.

No idea why it is not working. I have never had issue with usb flash drives. Are you using Apple or Windows Product? Since one work and not the other, it is less likely a OS issue.

I have used both with success, but FAT32 recommendation comes from years of instructions.

I use for years usb 3.0 sandisk exfat formatted and had no problems

I've read it in an official BMW document that ntfs isn't officially supported.

Now I tried a 64GB USB 3 stick with NTFS, nothing happen.
Same stick with FAT32, not working.

USB 2 hard disk 40Gb with NTFS, no problems.
USB 3 stick 32Gb with FAT32 no problem (despite not enough room for all files).

I think it more a USB device problem. The car seems to be sensitive about USB devices.

Later I will try the SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 mentioned before. I have this stick with 64GB and NTFS.

Try exfat format via windows, it will take maybe 10 to 30 seconds that navi display shows update available
