RE: Which battery charger/power supply for coding and flashing?
Hello.
I use a Bosch Bat 490. I've been using it for 6 years and have never had any problems.
I would now better opt for the GYSFlash devices.
value for money is great

RE: Which battery charger/power supply for coding and flashing?
Made my own with a Chinese powersupply, did a quick test today for about 2 hours and it fed 13.5V steady throughout the flashing session of my F11 LCI, it was 34 degrees C ambient temps outside and the PSU was not too warm during session.

600w 13.8V version ordered.

At max V setting output was 14.5V which read 13.8-13.9V by ISTA.

Cost, about 45usd with customs and shipping. Happy so far.

What’s the amperage on that PSU on 600W 12V?
Should say on the label. By using some simple math, seems to be under 50amps on 13.8. If you raise the voltage the amps will go even lower.
The way to calculate this is 600w divided by 13.8V (if the PSU states 600W on 13.8v). Prob you will be safe on F series, but I wound’t try a PSU with less than 60Amps on a G series flashing progress.
Also, on your car, on the red cap for positive battery terminal, doesn’t say to not go over 14.4V ? You did 14.5V. You are playing to much with your car smile

RE: Which battery charger/power supply for coding and flashing?
I never said I fed the car 14.5V, I said the PSU max output measured was 14.5V with voltage drop due to long leads feeding the terminals under the hood 13.8-13.9V.

From what I've read minimum voltage for flashing is 12.55V and optimal around 13.5V-ish. I could be wrong though since I am not an expert.

If I start seeing a voltage drop during my sessions this could indicate the PSU is not powerful enough to provide enough current, however, I haven't noticed such yet, even after flashing the NBT HU.

 600W @ 13.5V i~ 44A is enough for my F11 with a fresh battery for now biggrin

I use server power supply HP DPS-800GB A. You can get them for few euros on ebay. It can give constant 70Amps. My Amps meter goes to 100A and it can supply momentarily values above this limit (when connecting thirsty car with empty battery). Never had any problems flashing BMWs with this power supply. I made quite a few of them for other shops around town.

What AWG did you use for your leads?

16mm2 which should be 6awg. here are some photos
