When I unpack and copy into C:\ProgramData\BMW\ and then try and run loader, I get

ERROR: ISTA-P not found or installed. Please check your installation.

I removed my previous working ista-p (which worked).

Do I need to do anything else to get the ista-p install to work?

Unpack ISTA-P in the root of any disk, for example C:\ISTA-P or D:\ISTA-P and loader find it.

I get lots of errors when I extracted the ISTA-P files with 7zip! Over 200 .
What can be the problem ??

Download it again. All archives ok. I made and verify them. I use 7-zip 9.20.

There seems to be a lot of trouble installing everything correclty. The installation is a very error prone process in my case and I din't got anything running like expected. I solved many problems already but it is still much guessing which files have to be where and how the things work together.

Could you pleass help me with a step by step installation guide which is generic enough to be used on a different hard drive than C:\?

A big problem is that the basic requirements are not clear to me like:
- Does everything has to be installed on the same drive?
- How much free space is required?
- Does Rheingold require any other bmw software to be installed prior?
- Do I need to run some exe files as administrator or is it sufficient to run it as the current loged-in user who is withing the administrators group?
- I installed WinXP SP3 and .Net 4.0 as required by Rheingold. Is there anything I should configure like firewalls, Com-Port (seems to require Com9) or windows driver signature policy?

I couldn't find any setup exe or msi package for a convenient installation. So how to make it "install" properly?

New rheingold does not work on XP. Use windows 7 minimum & framework 4.52.
also read loader thread, it may help you.

You must be configur the Port-Com to 9 for the cable .
