Hello,
Apparently Audi released to RMC units, a new SD card with 2018 maps but with the possibility to update later to 2019 maps.
Anyone knows something about this? It looks Audi is changing the way to update maps, finally on-line !

Your Audi partner will immediately update the car's navigation system with the 2018 version of European card material. You will then - on your own - be free to download and update your car with the upcoming version 2019 navigation update by creating a profile at my.audi.com. Applies to cars with SD card based MMI navigation system. The price is incl. activation.

I noticed a new 2019 SD card on the EPC but obviously it seemed odd given they only just released 2018. In addition to that, I'm surprised Audi are going to allow us to download our own 2019 map as theoretically they will need to open up the SD card to being read so the new data can be written on to a new card.

It's not so strange.... Skoda can download the maps from internet for free.
It's just another way to do the updates, and I believe the validation for sure will be different from today.
I believe the SD card will have another process to validate the maps license, because this will be made using some new tool from my.audi.com
I'm very excited about this possibility allowing us to update the maps.
Lets wait and see

Not completely true, my car is from 2017 and because I've RMC I can't have free map downloads.

They are no use as you require activation with online server!

Online server yes but you still need an activation document with codes on which is still several hundred pounds/Euros in itself....

If you can get parts cheap enough and have the know how, you could update the system to the MMI 3GP and get maps from here for less than 2 years worth of updates from Audi!!!
