ZVW  Golf mk5 - change instrument cluster
Hello community,

I would like to upgrade/change instrument cluster from basic one to which showing outside temp (and ev. have board comp) on an early Golf MK5 from 2004.
Have already upgraded stalk and Steering Wheel Control Module to midline version.

Have few questions:

1.
I have genuine 5054a and ODIS, and I'm wondering do I need to have online account for "Replace Control Module" or can be done offline ?

2.
Mileage is copied to new cluster or needs to be adjusted with separate tool/session (which one)?

3.
any other things to think ?

VDO, Visteon, Magneti Marelli.
Best choice is vdo, and if its before MY_07 you can  adapt new dash with vcds just with both pins.
If Visteon, i know only one person who can completly transfer immo data between visteon cluster by dumps. But he is not on this forum.
Easyest way is to transfer immo data, most tools, even cheap clones can do this job.

Thank you.
Current cluster: KOMBIINSTRUMENT VDD 3556 1K0920850K

1. Which cluster version showing external temp and ev. have board comp will be suitable to replace current cluster ?

2. Do you have name for cheap tools (this will be one-time job, don't want to spend money)

3. Can't be done with ODIS ?

Let me answer by my self, according to ETKA I have LOWLINE model 1K0920850K, there is 1K0920860K MIDLINE (most common model) and 1K0920870K HIGHLINE which is suitable for BAG engine (1.6 FSI).

Now, need to find tool to do change

RE: Golf mk5 - change instrument cluster
I think 1K0920870k is good choice for this replacement.
both are pre 07 so you can adapt them with vcds, if someone extract for you pins. tools like carprog, cheap vag commander can help (if you are lucky... my comander never work on can bus, but some of my friends say that theirs works ok. china lottery) odis need online access for this job.

Thank you, seems at buying online access for 30-60min is best and cheapest option, no lottery with VAG Commander cables.

Many times I use $25 usd 60 minutes odis geko one-time login for remove component protection, adapt ecu, transmission & instrument cluster with great success.

I use this service:

RE: Golf mk5 - change instrument cluster
One more question, I have manage to source one 1K0920870K for very low price but that cluster have noticeably lower mileage than cluster in the car. I would like to match it current mileage in the car.

What is cheapest method to edit mileage on Pre 2006 Golf Mk5 VDO instrument clusters ?
Don't forget, this is one-time job.
