Detection will not show. This is exactly what I did previously. Although, now I have installed a CANChecked display which reads data from the DME and prevents ISTA from accessing the DME simultaneously (so, no detection). It's easier than having to swap the DME every time you visit the dealer and prevents them doing any kind of update smile. Of course, you can disable the CANbus protocol on the display if you ever do want to read the DME/do an update.

RE: [S0777] tuning detected
I fail to see any reason to do this. If your car will come for engine warranty and dealer can't read DME, I can't see how BMW will honor the warranty. If you disable your block, tunings will most probably be detected from FASTA data, even if you revert firmware to stock.

Even using two DMEs maybe ISTA will not show suspected tuning (S0777) from DME, but there will be huge discrepancies in working hours, distance driven etc. Immediate big red flags for questions and more detailed checks... And BMW will look into whole car data using more sophisticated methods than ISTA uses (can't believe they haven't left any criteria up their sleeve) and most probably find previous tuning...

For me the ability to block access to the DME is moreover to prevent the dealer from wiping my tune and requiring me to take it out again for a bench unlock. The CANbus method simply stops the dealer from updating my car when I don't want them to (even if you ask them not to, they sometime don't listen and do it anyway).

Ori ecu of the car.

i've tested also to clone another Ecu (edc17) but in this case ista detect the ecu as tuned also if the ecu is clean and also the backup. maybe on Mg/md1 work different.

i think every ecu has unique id number and if its not matching original then it will fail and cvn number as well
