+1 WinXP has be deprecated for years. Use a VM for XP on win7 or win10 if you are still set on XP. There's no benefit to running XP x86 memory is massively constrained and XP X64 barely works with any software.

Tried on another pc with Windows 8. Same result.

Windows 8 follows the same cycle of all windows releases. XP/Good Vista/terrible Win7/Good Win8/terrible Win10/ not great but way better than Win8.
