What software can i use to read the contents of the ECU in my Vectra B.

The ECU is a Simtek 71

Can the replacement Simtek ECU be de-programmed without the donor car ?

Sadly the Simtek 71 is sealed with all sorts of goo according to Youtube

Hello again yes use a universal programmer I use UPA 1.3

and as far as I remember you can remove gel from chip area to get at chip

but whether you have to desolder chip to read with upa or you can wire direct to upa with chip on ecu I do not know.

I will try and find some more info if you look inside ecu and get some numbers of chip it would help. but if you don,t want to open just yet ill try find some more info first hope this helps

Hi Dil6222, Thanks for the reply. My Dad's car runs rough after a few minutes. We have change the coil pack and checked the cables.

If i use CarProg i can just read the original ECU contents, (via the OBD port) install the new ECU and write the contents back. This avoids all the decoding needed from the new ECU's donor car.

Do you know where i can get Carprog that doesn't involve China ?

Hello again ok I get you as for carprog I,m not sure where to get one my upa is from china and it works no probs
I have seen car prog on ebay for 50gbp but those are from china also I see no reason why it wouldn,t work tho.

also not sure what alternatives there are to carprog there are maybe someone else on here can shed some light

I have simtec 71 reset, you can pair it to the car with OP-COM.
