Which power supply for programming

RE: Which power supply for programming
@Node, what you say is partially true, but proper design takes into account for all those variables. my DIY PSU in this thread cost around $60Eur, not including the time which was fun to do this! I just flashed my F82 DME, ICM, VDC, EGS to psdZ 61 and the voltage did not move a mV.

I'd love to get one of those professional PSUs, but the cheapest is 375Eur! most people that attempt those DIY are seasoned electronics hobbyists and/or EE like yours truly smile

So you own F82, but 375€ is too much? Strange smile

When you consider exchange rates, and duties and taxes to other countries outside EU, sometime it just isn't worth it.

Folks have done DIY PSUs without any issues, there are whole forums where you can find this info. Not the first time.

Hey,

Of course have to think about, If guy has own tuning/repair business,
Or is the supply self made for just your personal car.
They are two different things, if you own a shop, it will definetly be more be cost efficent, to buy a ready quality product, such as Scumacher, GYS, etc.
The time & labor repairman spends making his own, could tune or service several cars, so actually the DIY would become much more expensive! biggrin

You say min 750€, but I've ordered mine new shipped to Lithuania at 550€. Now can you tell frankly how much your DIY cost? Cables, voltmeter, ampmeter, clamps... I had a look at the catalogue prices, took cheapest I found and the total is easily over 300€. Plus PSU price and all those other things inside. I would say your project should have cost of over 400€. Not that big difference at all. And a week of tinkering time saved smile And also all those features like current limiting (I will use it for my other projects) and automatic battery charging are not there. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Of course doing without volts and amps displays would be much cheaper. I was thinking about doing one DIY myself, but then I've read about gysflash here and at that price I decided very quickly. Have not received it yet, so judging about it by the manual only yet.

Where did you buy it from?
They offer european delivery?

RE: Which power supply for programming
As I already said in another post I found a local company which sells welding equipment made by GYS. I called them and they agreed to get me a gysflash 12-100hf.

If you approach this case in this way you are wrong again. smile
Let me explain you why:
SERVERS must run 24/7/365 on these PSUs for years my friend. They are using TOP components for these units so they can not fail to soon.
I really doubt that a brand name automotive dedicated PSU will be able to survive at this regime.
About the price (and your approach) for this issue, try to think again.
These server units was THOUSANDS of dollars when they were made for those servers. The fact that now you can get them for bloody low prices is that they are obsolete now because the computer technology evolution was at a much faster speed than automotive industry.
Now, you will tell me that they are used smile
Wrong again smile Some are, indeed. Those are sold for 10-20 USD.
But others are kept in storage as spares or because of overproduction, so basically they are brand new units ready to run PERFECT for many years from now on. (these are sold for 30-40USD).
Anyway, don't worry about us with DIY projects and enjoy your brand name PSU the same as us enjoy ours (of course with some extra money in our pockets).
Cheers smile

Yes I do own an M4, do you ? It's rare that I engage in meaningless posts, but I couldn't resist. If you own something expensive, that doesn't mean you are rich and some of us like to mod and DIY, so the two have nothing to do with each other (me owning an M4 and diy'ing a PSU)

I flash on occasion and I didn't want to spend $1000CDN on a PSU, so I darn modded one for $100CDN because I CAN aetsch. It's fugly, it's moody but it works and it gave much joy to get back into electronics! Your PSU is amazing, beautiful and great. So let's both enjoy them in peace adore

OK, enough bickering. Thread closed.

If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons!
