Electrical coolant pump in this engine is controlled by DME. So it should also run as engine gets hot. Why do you want to run it always? If it does not run when engine gets hot, check the engine temperature sensor.

Engine temperature sensor work OK, but pump don't work when engine is hot - work when I turn heating - it work as additional pump but car don't have mechanical water pump but only electrical. Question - why not work when car is hot and why work only when I turn heating?

RE: BMW E87 116i N47B20 2011 - electric water pump
Electric coolant pump on this engine is digitally controlled. It does not necessarily run always on highest RPMs. How do you know its not running? I think it speed should be visible in the DME diagnostics. It also has a fairly comprehensive self-diagnostic capabilities. Have you checked error codes in DME? The pump itself monitors its RPMs so if it rotates slower than DME requests, it will immediately generate error code.

If it does not throw error codes and runs too slow allowing engine to overheat, the problem must be with engine coolant temperature sensor. Have you compared the temperature reading of it via DME diagnosis with actual engine block temperature measured with infrared thermometer? It could simply indicate lower than actual temperature to DME...

Can you post trouble codes?
Cause if what you say is true then their must be 3 codes or more generated
Also there is test plants that will tell you if it failed or not
Also you can pull RPM/Temp Etc.. via DME

If any of my posts or current one helps then don't forget to press thanks and add a reputation thankyou

RE: BMW E87 116i N47B20 2011 - electric water pump
You have 2 water pump. First main for engine cooling, second auxiliary water pump for heating. Looks like the main water pump is death, so only auxiliary water pump do the job-coolant flow-it's not enough
