On a number of the older motorcycle models the diagnostics interface is 3 wire only so there is no KL15 signal on the 10 pin diagnostics socket.
An adaptor cable with a switch to emulate ignition off/on is meant to be used between the VCI and the bike diagnostics socket and in the past it worked. On ISTA/Rhein versions 3.56 and 4.03 emulating the ignition switch with a signal to the ICOM or USB L-LIne adaptors it does not work at least for adaption reset on a model recently tested so the new ABL's seem deficient and there have been comments from Dealers to owners about poor handling of older models by the newer ISTA versions By coincidence or not there have been instances of machines not responding properly to adaption resets plus indications the Diagnostics system has not prompted the Dealer to idle the machine to rebuild adaption tables after a reset. The machines have then been able to be reset/rebuild adaptions properly using alternative diagnostics tools I find it difficult to believe BMW have elected to make the adaptor cables redundant and support of older models ignored. It seems there are a few bugs in in the later ABLs which will need to be addressed. A tool like this though at least provides a work around |
