Attempted to repair it and things just went south. I think it got damaged by heat since I was doing an E65 and used the ICOM in the engine area then in the next connection I noticed the red LED.

After two more clones that did not work I have now ordered a genuine next. The amount of money I wasted chasing after clones should have been well spent on an original. Never again. Strangely the old clone was similar to yours, worked 100%. I don't know why those cloners stopped doing proper equipment.

One of the clones I have shows 2v in KL15, the other used so show ethernet in configuration page though would indicate no ECUs connected, I could never connect ISTAP so I guess it was a faulty ethernet.

I would still be happy to try repair them just for the heck of it, If I could get a circuit board diagram.

Did you ever read my post here?

The MICREL chip must be cooled too (3 port layer 2 managed switch), not only the CPU.
Both chips will run out of max temps specs if you´re programming longer sessions.

(check the web for datasheets of both chips, you will find max operation temp inside and what type of grade they are. CPU Freescale Semiconductor Data Sheet, Technical Data of MPC5200B and MICREL KSZ8893MQL/MBL layer 2 managed switch)

In my link you will find a sketchup file with dimensions for the heatsink and the way I made it.
After the mod I checked operation temps with a laser thermometer to verify how it was working.
The heatsink high inside is important in the way that it has contact to the housing, so the complete case will work  as a cooling element.

The quality of the clone (with WIFI in 2015) was ok, but I resoldered the MICREL and some more parts with the Weller SMD reflow station. No problems since that time, mod was made in 2015. Meanwhile you can buy the genuine NEXT head (only the head) for about 470 Euros.

What about this with heat sink plate:

For me long sessions are not so interesting, i only want to update some dde and egs for example a few times a year.
