RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
Hello,
I just received my ICOM Clone from China... Before connecting the ICOM to my BMW, I would like to test it. Is there any Hardware Test available to test my ICOM? Also can you guys tell from my pictures if the ICOM is a good quality? What I already can tell is, that the 12V Port for Power is not soldered at all and is using a wrong connector. The connector, which is only clued to the board, is a RCA connector(Wikipedia). But if its only that, I can live with that... |

Regarding the power pin you are talking about, actually its not a power plug, its there to connect ICOM with IMIB(Integrated Measurement Interface Box).IMIB is another bmw diagnostic tool which contains oscilloscope, multimeter etc.Mine clone has a proper 5 pin imib connector as shown in the picture. |

RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
I tested the ICOM. And it was working fine with ISTA-D. But somehow it was not working with E-SYS. Also after connecting my ICOM to my car, I wasn't able to reach the ZGW anymore with ENET cable... After battery reset it was possible again to connect with ENET... So I guess my ICOM was faulty. I sent it back to the dealer and ordered an ICOM Next from BMW.
I rather spend more money on the ICOM, than spend even more money to get ECUs repaired or replaced... |

RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
I think all the newer icom clones are in some way bad... First had an icom a1 wich had no kl15 (fixed it by re-soldering the board) and had no connection on k-line vehicles. After that had an icom a2 clone wich worked perfect with ista d, but almost everytime when programming with ista p it got really hot and crashed at the middle of programming. Also the 20-pin adapter is really bad quality, used it maybe 5 times and now battery voltage isn't displayed anymore.... Now ordered an icom next at local dealership since i am sick and tired of praying it ends well during programming!
Other workshop nereby has icom a1 clone about 5 years old and it's still working perfectly, he does a lot of programming! So i guess the chinese quality got bad over the years. |

RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
Maybe a workable solution could be to have a Chinese clone kit, to have the cables and MOST Connector, but also purchase an original BMW ICOM NEXT from your closest dealer and use that all the time. Use the possibly poor quality clones only when the original goes down, or it has to be repaired.
Part # for original 81312360883 Picture also included below. BMW price is US $720.00. Well worth the investment. One DME U lock up is over $1,000.00 [one thousand]. The balance is obvious..... A real good idea is to complete a self installed heat-sink and fan, like some of the contributions mentioned before. Other part #s for the original kit are here: 81312360884 81312360885 81382201932 81382339699 |
