Hello my friends, I am coming from BMW and was using their factory ISTA software with ICOM(interface between car and computer) for my own DIY work.

I just got a 2015 Golf TDI(last VW tdi sold in North America) with EA288 engine.So what's the best software i can use for my own diagnostic or coding stuff?Also whats the best and cheapest interface i can get?I searched it and came up with couple of them like ODIS etc but couldn't understand it well.Please educate me.Thanks.

ODIS-S(service) 3.x.x and 4.0.1 and ODIS-E(Engineering)
Make sure to keep multiple copies of ODIS versions because they have mind of it's own(i tried version 4.x.x on A3 2009 and it couldn't find an engine but version 3.x.x worked and found an engine, tried today to adapt sunroof on Q7 with 3.x.x and it made it worser, then i tried 4.x.x everything went smooth)

THE ONLY ADVICE I WILL GIVE YOU AS FOLLOWS
DO NOT USE CHEAP CAR CHARGER WITH VAS5054A because i burned 2 already(one was not my fault, somebody decided to flip a switch from flash mode to 120AM engine start, another one was when somebody unplugged battery cable and plug back in for some unknown reason.... dumb people in automotive industry is unavoidable)

Regarding charger,i built a 100 amp power supply(from high end server power supply) which i still use on my X535D with ISTA for stable constant voltage of 14 volts.What voltage VW recommends while doing diagnostics?

ODIS is like ISTA
ODIS never gives you annoying "Termination" message like ISTA does
ODIS does gives you a discharge rates and recommends plug-in charger but DOES NOT terminate like ISTA
Q7 with all things on, said to me that it discharges at 46amp rate
A3 with all things on, said to me that it discharge rate was something like 33amp
"all things on" Headlights, heater blower, music, inside lights, gps. etc....
The biggest i seen was A8 at 50-something amp
