First of all you need a clone that has a real PIC18F458.
To make difference between a real MCU and a fake one there ais a Diode and a capacitor on PCB that make the difference.
Secondlly and the right test is to use OCflash upgrading and downgrading the firnware in MCU and if this is not bricked after this procedure you for sure have a real PIC18F458
This test its on your own risk. Anyway if you don't have a real PIC you haven't anything to loose.
Well if you have a real MCU and your tool is good ( comunication in all protocols are OK ) then you can use it with any version of opcom/vauxcom
But for the moment the free activations/solutions for any clone you can find in thus forum.
All the other are not for free and even such a cheap as we expect.
For all the other you need a keygen because tge activation depend by your FTDI ID.
So I am sure this will not be for free in the next futhure. But as always I said Never say Never.

Latest versions you can use are In the thread I posted above smile
I use 120309 with all different firmware on v5 hqclone. open and check hardware version and MCU as if its v6 clone with fake pic mcu and you try change firmware it will brick it so take care smile
