MMI firmware.. can you pay a UK Audi dealer to install it?

I got my SatNav maps updated free of charge as part of my purchase deal on a 2014 Q5 and the salesman also agreed to do the firmware too.

When I went to pick up the car the maps were on 6.25.3 so all good there... but the firmware is still on P0662.

I queried it and they said they wouldn't do the firmware unless Audi diagnostics check said it was needed... they said they wouldn't be covered on insurance if they bricked the unit if wasn't a 'required' update!

The parts team were great and said 'if I can find any information they can use to push the techs to do it they would get it sorted'.

Only thing I can think of is if anyone has managed to get Audi to update it as a 'paid' upgrade?

If anyone has done this I'd be grateful to get more info on which dealership and when.

Updating maps is difrent thing that updating firmware.
You can update firmware without bricking it down.

You can do it yourself or Audi will do it easily if you produce them a TPI number from Erwin with a particular bug that needs fixing.

I have the RMC system and both Stoke & Stafford Audi swore blind there was no updates for my MY2012 car with original firmware on. Brought 1 hour of Erwin access, found the TPI and magically they were able to do the update for £60!!! I just used the part number from Erwin and purchased the SD update card myself for £30 - only downside is I have an SVM error on the 5F unit but it doesn't stop it working at all.

What is the SVM error code? You can usually clear it one way or another, but it may need a script.

here is the Error: In Navigation Map 2D/3D View, Direction Configuration „auto“ in Map Settings, the Map showing till Zoom "100 km" in Driving Direction. Car User Manual predicts that with this settings it must show after Zoom "5KM" the map in North direction.

Error is: Traffic Status Notification gets received but they are not showing in the NAV Map. Also the stripes along the street and the Notification Icon are not shown on the place in the Map like written in the Car User Manual.

"After startup display sometimes stays dark or sometimes display hangs at audi logo" and tell them I found a fault reference of: 2042658/5 which relates to this issue... hopefully they'll do it for me!

Just out of interest... will that TPI (2042658/5) be relevant to a 2014 unit running P0662? If it only relates to an issue in the K942 firmware I'd look a bit silly

TPIs maybe they call it also TSB's in English were searched for Q5 MY 2015 (Builddate 2014) with MMI 3GP Firmwares under K942 ... i hope the tpi numbers are the same like in germany but why they should not ? They must have the same TPI if the number differs.

So when you have p0662 every tpi is valid for your unit. If they don't find it with this number they have to search it. Also tell them that the error is sometimes happening. So you have a excuse when it is not happening at the moment

If this not working tell them about TPI (TSB) 2029726/12 - this one is for my 2014 / build date 2013 - error here is : screen is freezing sometimes and mmi sound is still running and it doesn't give reaction when button is pressed. After Car stopped and wait sometime mmi is working again.

I didn't even give a fault description for mine as they swore blind a problem didn't exist - in my case the instructions being read in KM even though the unit was set to miles. As soon as I handed them the TPI number, they couldn't argue.

Clearing the SVM is possible but I don't think it's using a script as the RMC seems a lot more complex in terms of it's programming or unlockables features compared with the MMI 3G.

I just need to find £800 so I can retrofit MMI instead

You can even order oem SD card firmware, and do update by yourself, but if car is still in warranty, better request dealer does updating fw, you can always claim that unit behavior not normal when you use, like freezing at startup, suddenly reset, etc. etc. , popdog wrote few good suggestions for claim
