Backing Up a COMAND DX CD-ROM 2/2010
Hello members,
I have a 2001 W210 with the factory COMAND 2.0 unit in it, and when I purchased it the previous owner kept the Navigation Discs up-to-date purchasing the last units released for the North American market, which were dated 02/2010, and consists of 10 CD-ROMs. I intend on leaving the vehicle as built without replacing the COMAND, and when driving long distances these maps, although 8 years old, have proven very useful. Since one CD-ROM covers the area that I most frequently travel, and it being loaded into the head unit slot, it is easily susceptible to becoming scratched or damaged, which would effectively impair the COMAND functionality greatly. The COMAND does have the OEM Alpine D2B Changer, Digital Tele-Aid, and Motorola Cellular Phone with linear compensator and the linguatronic connected on the D2B ring. The phone is used regularly, so removing the COMAND to change it to a more modern system would really not be ideal as I greatly benefit from the aerial antenna that the phone uses which never has reception issues. With that said, I would like to make a backup of the CD that I use most often that I *legally* own and is out-of-print and has been for some time. There was an identical set of these maps on eBay a few weeks ago for $999.00 USD! Not sure who would spend that much on an 8 year old map set, but it's clear they are hard to replace if they get damaged or lost. Has anyone successfully backed up the 2/2010 COMAND DX CD-ROMs? If so, what application, blank media, and CD writer was used? They seem to be produced with bad sectors to prevent duplication, but due to them being out of print, I think it is very important if I want to keep the car original and maintain its functionality. Any ideas would be appreciated! |
