MChevrolet  VIN Change in GM PCM wihtout writing flash?
Hi All,

From what I understand, Tech2/SPS will allow a VIN change for a PCM if Replace/Reprogram is selected, and when asked to confirm the VIN, the new one is entered, and flashing commences. Is it possible to change the VIN without changing the flash on the PCM?

Thanks!

I have a unique issue where the PCM is actually out of a 2005 model, and the truck is a 2003. Therefore, the VINs mismatch and appear to be causing problems. Not sure if I could correct the VIN and cancel the flash process or not. Since the 2003 and 2005s are very different, I am afraid I would brick the ECU at worst, and put it in bootloader mode at best!

It looks like some tuner devices can do it, and perhaps this device, but it is not cheap...

Since the 2 VINs are so closely related, I would check in SPS if the flashes are the same. Open SPS, enter the first VIN and go to program the PCM and see what flash it tries to enter. Don't flash, close out the program and then re-enter SPS and use the 2nd VIN. Compare the 2 flash numbers. You may get lucky and they are the same.

Hi CT,Efi Live can update the vin without changing calibration so normaly gm calibration is include with vin but if your vehicule is 2005 and you nead 2003 vin for me i use Efi Live, thanks.

Thanks for the response. I am *thinking* that one is a Duramax Gen1 and the other is a Duramax Gen2, it probably will be different. I am still actually trying to establish a stable connection to the truck but am unable to. AVDI released new PassThru drivers but it seems as if SPS still doesn't like it, however many others are reporting no issues. Mine is a genuine AVDI, so I am still not sure the issue.

Do you know if right off if EFI Live will talk to multiple control modules and allow them to be changed, such as BCM, EBCM, etc., or is it primarily designed only to work with the PCM/TCM?

Thanks!
