It wasn't invented by Chinese thou it's not needed for anything. It's used at factory plant..

There is a chinease clone of it for 300$ but I guess that it has ICOM a1/a2 pcb inside.

Well at the time P was released it had 1000Base-T instead of 100 in A1 also ARM is different and theres 1GB memory. There's no simple answer to your questions; tldr - don't bother much about it. There's a lot of different factory toys which are used at bmw factory. This does not mean these are needed by us... |

ICOM-P already many years have been used on BMW factories. I think from the same time when ICOM A1 appeared, 8-10 years ago.
