K+DCAN plus ISTA-P is a risky combination.

This is true. Also, K+DCAN with WinKFP can be risky.

On many E60 models:

KDCAN + ISTA/P or WinKFP
Will program DDE/CAS/DSC/EKP correctly
Many issues programming CON or CID
Always issues with MOST type modules even though it IS possible to use KDCAN

ICOM + ISTA/P or WinKFP
Generally very few issues when vehicle is set up correctly.
Failed CON programming in previously given example above can be recovered easily using ICOM.
