Hi All,

My mothers partner has a 2005 Astra Life 1.7 on 88k.

It started off with flickering lights on the dash when in ignition position 2 and intermittent starting. Sometimes have to turn off and on a couple of times, then it stopped starting altogether.

Now . . . . When putting key to position 2 there is no lights on dash cluster at all . . .not even mileage display and the head lights are on even though they are switched off on the switch.

When turning off, everything including lights turn off. Radio works fine.

We checked the back of the ignition barrel incase that was causing an issue as it is a common fault but seems fine.

My mobile mechanic has said the CIM and Dials need replacing. I have ordered replacement CIM from eBay that was Tech2 Reset.

I am about to go looking for a set of clocks.

Is there anything else worth trying before ordering some clocks as I dont have internet access when out at the car as its in a small village, so would like to get as many ideas to print out and take with me.

Try to replace CIM and program keys.
I had Vectra C 2008 1.6 petrol with similar problem and only CIM was faulty.

Change CIM and programm it and then Try again

just a thought have you changed the key battery the key been opened as the chip inside could be lost just a thought
