I have been searching about this information but need someone to guide me thru. 

I have a 2017 Audi A4 B9 Japan import. These are two things I am trying to do. 

1. Changing the radio frequency
2. Changing the map version to Australia/New Zealand map.

Can this be done by changing the regional setting in the hidden menu? Any help will be appreciated.

Radio frequency and map you can change region with vcds
but to make working navigation map you must pay someone with good experience.

Do you have VCDS, VCP or Obdeleven?
If yes, then activate in 5F module byte 9 bit 0 and bit 4 and uncheck all others bits in byte 9 or just make byte 9 to be "11". This is solution for EU radio frequences.
With maps - there is no easy solution, only for "big" money and only limited quantity of guys can do it.
