XZBMW  2008 328xi ISTA connection issues
Hello All,

I've spent the last 3 days searching for info and trying to connect ISTA+ (4.10.20) and/or ISTA/P (3.64.600) on my windows 10 laptop to my e91 (2008 328xi) with no luck. I've connected the same system to my 2014 BMW motorcycle just fine (K-line), but not the car. Basically there is no communication through ISTA+/ISTA/P between the laptop and the car. The info I found on the OBD car plug does not match what my car has, please see the pics. I only have connectors on pins 4, 5, 6, 9, 14 and 16, the last one does have battery voltage without ignition on. The car battery is charged up and I'm using a 10-12 amp charger; I've also tried it with the engine running.

My K+dcan cable is the switchable type that's also compatible with INPA, and I've tried all the switch locations, but being it's for pins 7&8 on the obd side, I can't see it making a difference since I don't have any connectors there on the car. So is this car basically a K-line? I receive the same message, the vehicle could not be identified, with the cable attached to the obd port, or removed from the port.

Before looking closer at the OBD plug, I had tired just about all the usual culprits e.g. comport settings, ran DCANexe withing the first minute of connecting to car, but timed out multiple times, turned off firewall and virus protection etc.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Pins 7 and 8 makes no differance for you because u are on DCAN and have no CIC that use pin 8 ethernet.

Some K+DCAN i bought where also not working with vehicles after 03/2007

Do you have green or white board?
Lattency to 01 and COM port correspond to OBD.ini file in ediabas?

I can have a look with teamviewer if you want?

Dit you run regfix for 64bit for OBD ?
Dit you run OBD setup.exe to check if you have no warnings?

RE: 2008 328xi ISTA connection issues
Thank you for the quick response! It's the green board.
Latency is 01 and com ports match on both obd files, it was set to 9, but I tried comport 1 and still no-go.
I have not run regfix, or OBD setup, will do as soon as I get home from work.

I ran the DCAN utility , but it returned a Timeout answer error, I tried several times within 1 minute of car connection. I will run the command line version next. I will go down the list of all the great suggestions here and report back.

Thank you all!!!!

Please see attached pictures below. So could it just be an incompatible cable?

I see u use ISTA 4.10.xx so my question do you have connection with INPA and the same K+Dcan?

Maybee i can have a ook with Teamviewer and try to help you.

For version 4.10.xx to delete faults you also need NODE's voltage control tool. I don't use it beause i have ICOM but the tool is for switching of KL15 when do a fault reset.

RE: 2008 328xi ISTA connection issues
Yes, INPA does connect, but reads ignition as on, without it actually being on. I assume this is due to receiving power from pin 16. Dcan utility does not connect, even if I connect within 1 minute of turning ignition on "adapter not connected!!!"

I will find the node's vc tool and run it...I'll PM you regarding a team viewer session, thank you very very much for all of your time and helpful information!
