XSMini  NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
Hi all,

I've recently retrofit an NBT Evo2 headunit and touchscreen display from an F54 Clubman into my 2017 F56 JCW Mini.  My car did not come stock with navigation or a touchscreen.  A vendor coded the headunit for me, and the touchscreen, GPS, CarPlay and Satellite Radio all appear to work, but I'm having a GPS problem and the vendor is running out of suggestions.

The issue is that my navigation often (but not always) thinks I'm a couple of blocks from where I actually am.  This occurs even though I can see in the Service Menu that the GPS has a 3D Fix.

Even when the car thinks I'm in a location different from where I am, the GPS coordinates shown on the screen are correct (but the street name and map shows me somewhere else).

Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue?

Thanks in advance.

RE: NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
Hi,

My Mk4 unit in my e46 used to have the same issue.
Then, after a few months, it got worse, showing a continuous rotation of the map, 360° as if the car was driving in circles.

Turned out that water had leked in the unit, a few drops on the PCB caused a damage to a couple of op amps leads near the gyro sensor.
Fixed by replacing the amps and cleaned.

Most likely Telematic_Ecu is set to Aktiv.
Make sure it is set to Nicht_Aktiv

Do you know what you have as the source of GPS data? Did you retrofit an ATM module, or do you have an emulator that generates GPS, or are you using the built-in GPS? (My nbt2evo does not have the blue GPS connector, so I'm in the process of installing an ATM)

RE: NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
bmwcoder75 - Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked, and unfortunately, Telematic_Ecu is already not active.

vilord - I'm using the built in GPS. My headunit has the blue GPS connector. If anyone is curious, I've confirmed that:

SYSTEM_GPS_RECEIVER is aktiv
GPS_FROM_NAVI is aktiv
ADAS_GPS is not_aktiv

If anyone has additional thoughts, please let me know.

Same thing on bmw f20 with EVO with the built-in GPS which was taken from G11 and worked with ATM.

Did you encode FEM and ICM with FA option 609?
You must do that

RE: NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
Thanks bmwcoder75. The modules have not been coded - the vendor isn’t optimistic that this will resolve it, as I’ve sometimes gone a few days with no problems at all.

You think coding the modules could resolve an intermittent issue?

RE: NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
What brand of GPS antenna you use? And where is it located?

RE: NBT EVO2 Retrofit - GPS Issue
Thanks larshutten. I’ve tried two different antennas in a handful of locations (inside the dashboard, on top of the dashboard and on the windshield). Both antennas are inexpensive, but one obtains a 3D fix more consistently than the other, and that’s the one I’m using now. If you have any recommendations on an antenna, please let me know.

Given that the gps obtains a 3D fix, I’ve been assuming the antenna isn’t the issue, but I’m happy to try another one.
