Repair FM Fakra connector NBT EVO
So after almost bricking the unit trying to flash it in the retrofitted car I had to remove it from the car so it could be fixed on the bench. I already noticed that this connector was a bit lose but did not know it would break this easy. So now FM1 is broken off. Is there a repairkit for this? Or a less elegant way to fix it? I mainly use dab in NL but when the dab connection is bad it drops to fm or germany/belgium i use fm so would like to fix it. Also have fm2 still but fm1 and fm2 together is mainly for AF function.

RE: Repair FM Fakra connector NBT EVO
if you are looking for an easy fix , then get a universal male FAKRA  cable ( available everywhere ) ,

and solder the middle wire to the +  and the outer wire to -

if you want OEM finish then Open the and replace the broken with a new socket .

Do you have the partnumber for the socket? And maybe also the partnumbers for the missing plastic connectors for Fm2 Dab3 sockets?

I can solder it just need to know the parts

RE: Repair FM Fakra connector NBT EVO
finding OEM part numbers is almost impossible .. only way is to open the headunit , look at how the socket looks like ( mounting size and pins etc etc ) and try to find a replacement online .

google ( Fakra PCB mount ) and you will find nearly as OEM ones .

For that I will indeed have to open the headunit and see exactly what kind of connector is used. For now i could not find one which looks the same.

I dont know for sure but i think the connectors used in the nbt evo unit are from yamaichi hf106p series. Unable to find them on ebay or for sale...

No, BMW/Harman Becker basically uses German manufacturer parts when it's possible. For FAKRA connectors, the provider is Rosenberger.

You can find their FAKRA catalog here: https://www.rosenberger.com/0_documents/...g_2018.pdf

For FM1, FM2, DABL and DABIII, they use single "Right Angle plug PCB incuding Housing", i mean part "59S2UQ-40MT5-Y_1" (the "Y" refer to the color). The datasheet is available here: https://catalog.rosenberger.com/images/d...T5-Y_1.pdf

So, at the end the reference that you looking for the FM1 is "59S2UQ-40MT5-A_1" (Black). You can find details here: https://catalog.rosenberger.com/index.ph...new_lang=2

Other references are:
- FM2: 59S2UQ-40MT5-B_1 (White) - https://catalog.rosenberger.com/index.ph...new_lang=2
- DABL: 59S2UQ-40MT5-E_1 (Green) - https://catalog.rosenberger.com/index.ph...new_lang=2
- DABIII: 59S2UQ-40MT5-K_1 (Curry) - no detail page available

If you looking for only the plastic plug, which is missing according your picture. You need part "59Z167-000-Y" (the "Y" refer to the color). This part is not publicly available  because Rosenberger basically do not recommend to change the housings on the connectors manually but to replace everything, but you can try.

So according your picture, you need:
- FM2: 59Z167-000-B (White)
- DABIII: 59Z167-000-K (Curry)

The best way to have those references is to contact them directly, negotiate and be patient, very patient.

I hope it will help you and if my post helped you hit the thanks and reputation button. handshake

Thanks to coding34 for the efforts ,

here is a German based website for ordering : not sure if they ship internationally if you are not based in Europe but I am willing to help ordering and shipping internationally if anyone needs those parts .

Thanks for the info mate i guess i need:

59S2UQ-40MT5-A_1 (black)
59S2UQ-40MT5-B_1 (white)
59S2UQ-40MT5-K_1 (curry)

59Z167 is just the plastic i guess. I contacted Yamachi. They were going to send me 3 yamaich parts but since you say its not yamaichi but rosenberger. But they look allot like eachother. Mouser cannot deliver the black connector for the coming 15 weeks worried So I guess i will try with the yamaichi connectors first. They look identical.

EDIT: Had a second look into the datasheets of the Yamaichi and Rosenberger:

There is a difference. The Yamachi is 6mm wide while the rosenberger is 4.5mm wide. and there is a difference in thickness which is not an issue actually. But the wideness makes it impossible to fit on the nbt evo pcb i guess. Damn cannot wait 15 weeks. I will still do something as a workaround i guess and meanwhile ask for parts @rosenberger.

The center pin however does not seem to be soldered but looks like its glued on the pcb? How to remove it safely and solder the new part? Or should I just not bother and solder over it, use some thin to merge the center (copper) pin.

RE: Repair FM Fakra connector NBT EVO
I don't know the Yamaichi connector but I would not be surprised if you have problems!

The connectors were reflow soldered and use solder paste as it's a SMD Pin-in-Paste with AuroDur plating. More info about the AuroDur : https://www.rosenberger.com/0_documents/...N_2007.pdf

As it's a RF connector and the soldering have an impact on the signal quality, it's always hard to say the best option to repair it. A simple iron is not enough, you need heat gun and solder paste.

My advise if you have no experiences and materials is to contact a local PCB manufacturer which can do the job in few minutes for few dollars.

Since it will take probably more than a month before i get the correct connector from Rosenberger. I will have to fix it temporary by soldering a cable on the ends of the broken Fakra connector like emhtuning explained in his post. If this will be a 100% fix, i dont know. I can test is by just connecting fm1 and see if i can hear the ready clearly. If i do, i wont touch it anymore and will continue listenig to dab+. I asked a professional to fix it properly and he asked 290 euro for the repair, that's not worth it I guess...
