Having some issues with this (R56 Mini - previously upgraded from stock 2015 maps through all 2018 releases).

When I insert the USB with these 2019 maps the car recognizes it's an updated set of navigation data, prompts me to start, but then goes to the circular alphabetical screen (as if I were searching for an address) - If I enter anything it tells me I got the activation code wrong?

The 2018 releases never asked for any code - they just updated after pressing start.

Am I doing something wrong ?

Trust me, it's had 4 Evo updates so far, so I'm pretty sure it'll be needing one this time too!

But it's 11.30 at night now so a photo will have to wait until tomorrow...

Ok so assuming you have Evo then your 3 years free map updates is expired.
You need to buy new map update code that will allow you to install 2019-1 map

OK, thanks for that, avoiding the answer of 'BMW/Mini' where do I buy one of those then ?

I've had the car from new and at no point was I ever told I'd bought three years of free map updates - where on earth was I supposed to get them from, the dealer has never offered this during any of the services/etc, they aren't freely available from Mini website, the car has no internet capability - all just seems a bit strange.

For BMW use Connected Drive - I assume something similar for Mini exists also. Other upgrade options are available - Google is your friend as third party cheaper options are available.



The Map Update Package allows the BMW Professional navigation system, combined with BMW ConnectedDrive, to update the navigation map data either via USB or automatically over-the-air. A USB map update can be completed via the BMW ConnectedDrive portal to integrate the latest European wide map data, or as soon as a new navigation map version is available for the country that your vehicle is registered in, the update is transferred via the integrated SIM card directly into the vehicle’s navigation system, completely over-the-air. Customers need not worry about data costs or license costs, or having to have map updates completed by a BMW Service Centre. During the update process, the navigation system remains fully functional.

After purchasing the USB map update you will find the link to download the new map in the main navigation under Cockpit - Control (Link)
