I used to have a ICOM a2 clone, bought for around 300 euros, but the very first time i was trying to software update a E87 lci using ISTA/P it ended up failing.
Afterwards i bought a new genuine ICOM Next A for 550 euros instead, and have never had a single problem since then.

Clone shouldn't be used to jobs such a programming or coding. My friend has a professional BMW service, but he handle only mechanics repairs, so he use clone just to read faults or make simple initializations, synchronizations in ISTA-D. In such a case, you don't need original one.
