How-to flash nbt evo id4 to id5/6
Hello everyone,
after a lot of unsuccessful and incomplete searches, I allow myself to ask you a little help.

I own a mini F56 from March 2016 equipped with a nbt evo. The car is currently in the garage for overhaul and I intend to launch this weekend. I would know at this time if it is a 2gb or 4gb version.
From what I understand, if it is the version 2gb the only solution is to flash the firmware Rueko (I have not found a download link) and if I have the version 4gb I could install the version found on this thread https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=44808.
I am looking for a guide because esys seems not easy to use.
Thank you to everyone who will help me.

Waste of time bluetooth wont work anymore.
Get hw 4.1 Mini HU if you want Carplay etc.
Hw 3.1 and below will be problematic as you will lose bluetooth...

RE: How-to flash nbt evo id4 to id5/6
I'm surprised, I have not read that there is Bluetooth problems. Used nbt hw4.1 are difficult to find at reasonable prices in France. For less expensive i can find Android systems with touch screen. It would be better solution? the question I ask myself is if with such a device can I keep control on the car settings, the rear view camera, park assist...
An other question, does it exists a code sheet for option activation? Fold mirrors when closing the car for exemple.

All PRE LCI (<2018) Mini F54/F55/F56/F57 are fitted with either NBT (<07-2015) or EVO 2GB (>07-2015) when you have 8.8 inch screen, F54 is an exception on this (see below).

Even LCI (>2018) Mini F55/F56/F57 are not fitted with an NBT EVO. These models were never fitted with an evo 4gb unit. I came to this conclusion when we tried to flash the evo in my car and it failed. The LCI units are fitted with Entrynav2 units, which also support carplay and so on but are different units.

However from 07-2015 onwards the mini F54/F55/F56/F57 are fitted with an EVO unit (2gb) with id4 (same interface as on the older EVO). There is an hack/tweak  to get id5 on there headunits but you will encounter random reboots and crashes. Some have it more often than others an especially when using gps functionality. Yours is probably hw 2.3 with 2gb and grey top.

The clubman F54 and the new countryman F60 are fitted with HW 3.1 or HW 4.1 units with id5 from 07-2017 (or even 03-2017) onwards.

I retrofitted an NBT EVO HW 4.1 from F60 to my F55 (pre lci 2015) myself. All functionality works fine. The only issues I have is that the car thinks it's a clubman, animations are wrong, the user manual doesn't work and the full screen carplay is not available. To fix this I need to flash the unit to at least Istep 03-2018 on the bench, not in the car  whew

So you have 2 options:

- flash the unit to id5 and live with the reboots. I suggest staying below istep 03-2018 since this istep has majour upgrades and causes more instability to the 2gb units. (According to many on the forums)
- get an hw 3.1 or hw 4.1 with 4gb ram. These are round 500 euro's on ebay. You probably dont need a new screen since your screen is already apix2 (non-touch obviously). and probably can also use the existing idrive controller with the evo 4gb. If you want touchscreen you also need to change the screen. tbh you will be fine w/o touchscreen. Like they say: If you don't have it, you dont miss it...

PS: I never heared about the bluetooth issues on hw 3.1. and if so… carplay uses wifi  giggle
