Most of the time there is no problem. But they have implemented a new detection in the newer releases. So, they could block your account any time if they suspect its activated using non authorized method. Also I suspect old keys will probably stop working on newer versions very soon. New things happening.

It does not matter how the method. And neither the old method nor the new one is the original key. And so you have a risk.

you can only add that all info is for 32bit. 
for 64bit it will be different folders C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes.... 
and "old key" is different locations C:\Windows\SysWOW64 not C:\Windows\system32 and sightly difference in reg file.
HOWEVER if correct locations will be used, all should work as it intended to.

IMPORTANT: Regardless system will starts, doesnt means it works as it should. Simple "copy-paste" is very basic solution, and is like leaving open doors for MB to come and inspect your system. Seek professional help, but more likely this means £$€....
