F10 523i Error Terminal 15_3 Short to ground
Good Day Guys

Been Battling with this car. Car cranks but do not start. Car was towed to the workshop. Error in ISTA "Terminal 15_3 Line from CAS short to earth". Checked the specific line, goes to the DME directly. Getting power on it. No Short no open circuit.
Checked fuses etc no joy. Car cranks but refuses to start. Anyone came across similar issue? Is the DME toast? Its a MSV90 DME.
Any help would be appreciated.

Use a Multimeter to run a continuity check on that KL_15_3 from CAS TO DME. Remove battery cable and then touch on multimeter lead on the line and the other on the body of the car, if meter beep then a part of that line is shorted to car ground. Touch the lead on other wires in that wire loom also. If there is a short then meter will beep.

Tried that the line is ok. Checked continuity all good. Cas giving out power on TERMINAL 15_3.

Update

Some progress. Removed DME and opened it. I see one track burned inside. Have to now separate the pcb from the case, probably some more damage on the underside of the pcb.

Tried reading ISN of this ecu MSV90 with Mini ACDP. First it asks for password which i dont know then it gives out security error.

Would be interested if you get to read it with ACDP, I have the same and may need to read ISN in future. Write to customer care, they try to be helpful most times.

You soldered the three 1000ohm resistors as shown in ACDP pinout? What resistor wattage, 1/4 or 1/8?

Thanks for the reply William. Yes contacted support they said it needs password to read and write ISN.
They are working on the issue..

Also followed the diagram used 1000 ohms 1/4 watt resistors. No joy. If I could separate the pcb from the case I could possibly maybe repair the damaged components. Tricky part is to separate the pcb.

Since DME is already damaged you could try pry it open. You need heat and lots of patience. I saw the ACPD dme pinouts on BMW Explorer, there they are very clear. Bought the tool for such issues in future. Just the base, Ill add licences as I go along.

Good luck and report back. If you get a used DME, let me know if you succeed writing ISN with ACDP.

Well when I asked ACDP help they told me that msv90 not supported yet. So my best chance is to get a used DME read ISN with magpro 2 x17 and then write that ISN to CAS. They make keys with DME ISN. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Update
Got a used DME same part number. Tried it on the car and the fault is not displayed anymore.
Now i will read the MSV90 ISN via MAGPRO and write it to CAS. CAS4 is mask 1L15YF. F10 523i 03/10 I know best way to do it is change the ISN in donor DME. But i dont have Autohex. My approach is to read donor isn, write in CAS and make key then Reset EGS 8hp.
Will this solution work?
