RE: BMW E60 N52 WONT NOT START
Pull the VVT solenoids out and inspect the mesh on solenoids for iron filings. If filings are present suspect the oil control rings on camshaft under cam journel 1 as these wear away and cause an internal oil leak which in turn makes it impossible for the computer to control VVT properly due to incorrect oil pressure. This however will not stop it from starting but would cause those vanos codes. My gut feeling tells me your timing chain has jumped. Unscrew the oil cap and check chain tension between the two camshaft sprockets. Even better if you turn engine over slowly by hand so there is no oil pressure taking up the slack you will probably see that it is very loose it may even jump a tooth whilst you turn it over. If it does DO NOT crank it anymore just replace with full chain kit. This is a common problem I have done a fare few. But ALWAYS check first
