Hi guys,

I’ve fitted a 09/2006 535d drivetrain in my 09/2004 E61 530d, and currently I’m suffering from ELV issues, in particular flashing a CAS3+ with ‘no ELV’ firmware. The engine starts and runs fine on the CAS3 that came with the engine, but when fitted with the CAS3+, there’s no communication on pin 20 to the DME (EWS)

The CAS3 module is fitted with a 256 kB chip, while the CAS3+ is fitted with a 512 kB chip. The only firmware accessible is to the 512 kB chip.

What’s the difference between the mentioned CAS modules, and in particular why’s there no communication through pin 20?

It wont work. Why not use your old cas2? Otherwise you will have loads of errors.

The start/stop button has been adapted to the car, and works fine with the 256 kB CAS3, except the obvious issues regarding ELV.

I’m not sure why ‘It wont work’, as the modules are quite similar.

I have no idea but all my attempts to mix cas2 and 3 have failed. DSC complains incessantly and permanent check engine. I would be keen to know why too.

Is it old style key or new to keyslot CAS2 you’re trying to replace?
