XZBMW  Whining noise in connection with AC
hi Guys, I need your help. My car (F13 650xi) produces an annoying, rev dependent noise when the AC is on. Of course I tried google, but without success. My car is still under warranty, my dealer already replaced the AC compressor (incl. clutch), no change.
In the soundfile attached the car is in P. AC is activated at 00:05 and deactivated at 00:24.
Any ideas what could cause this noise?

Hi,
Currently I have the same problem, but with a 525d xDrive 2013 F11. The workshop says it's nothing to worry, no errors, the AC system seems OK but my personal opinion is that the problem is an electrical one, coming from the alternator but not from the AC system/compressor! Try a complete diagnose of your alternator! I strongly believe the it's a diode issue or it might be.

RE: Whining noise in connection with AC
You hear this sitting in the car? If yes You have not enough refrigerant in AC system.

I have the same sound.

From what I have heard it’s from the AC compressor.
I just got used to it.

Changing it will solve the sound.

RE: Whining noise in connection with AC
From what I've read, this can also be caused by having TOO MUCH refrigerant in the system, causing the compressor to STRUGGLE and give off that rev-dependent whining sound.

If the compressor was just changed in yours, it could very well be that they added too much refrigerant / coolant?

I'm taking mine (F48 - 2016 X1 2.8) to my mechanic tonight for the very same issue (that's why I looked this up) --- I just had the evaporator changed a few weeks back and the noise started after that (after the refrigerant was re-filled). Will report back if bleeding out some fixes my issue.

So my mechanic confirmed it wasn't too much refrigerant afterall. After examination, it's either the compressor, or a belt/pulley -- he's starting with the belt/pulley (right next to the compressor). Will update once I have more news.
