Future Esys versions require internet connection?
Hello guys,
I am a software engineer and a friend of mine in another project had contact to someone from BMW who said something like „it is known that you can find plenty of information on the internet how to code BMW ecus but that should change in the future“. My friend said it could require an internet connection. Is there anyone who has more information regarding that? |

Yes,
I think ISTA is/has gone to online... So coding etc will be soon to follow.... Hopefully some of the many many clever people on here and other forums will find a way to combat/calculate a remedy for this |

Old cars F and G without change
For last series SA18 - with pw It does not work right now but will be soon You can see in CAF Parameter - WRITE_PROTECTED_NCD p.s. bonus: Abolished EST You can code with man old F and G without EST NBTEVO, ENAV2, MGU - CP OFF, Navi , APPS , Carplay, AA
MGU ID-8-9-10 Cars - Full Region change NCD Secure Coding 2.0 |

RE: Future Esys versions require internet connection?
By using the actual CAF-editor you need an internet connection for authorization.

I hope there will be someone that finds a way to solve this. EDIT: There must be more than simple authorization for CAF-Editor because it would be easy to modify esys libs (I've done that myself) to not require the internet connection. I guess there will be an alternative token which will be retrieved from backend and will then sign the NCD. But this would require also implementation on the ECUs itself because EST signed NCDs would also be valid. Then everyone could just use an older Esys version. So what BugFix says makes actually sense. But i could miss something there. (20-09-2019, 08:26 AM)BugFix Wrote: Old cars F and G without change Thanks for your input. Which Esys version is that? |

But, there should be a solution that you can also code without connection, emergency one. Hopefully this will help us................. |

I think there will be a cut. And with some new Istep version will be come |

RE: Future Esys versions require internet connection?
Yeah same thoughts. They must be implementing this with a new I-Step else how would they enforce it if the car still accepts EST signed NCDs... then you could just use an older Esys version...
But even if you had such a new I-Step then what if you downgraded to older I-Step?! Could it make it work with EST again? Questions over questions... |
