I have ordered kess and ktag from ali.
I would be scared to write virtual file on edc17cp45 with kess clone.
By using Ktag all ecus even with some tprot etc will be fine? Is it always just protection against OBD writing?

i have tested only toyota denso VF and write it ok. Other ecu was using ktag and no problems, still today from time to time i use ktag for test and works ok

iused my kess clone to write vr file to edc17 skoda superb, all went ok but writing the mod. vr file took a very long time so be careful, goodluck

Why mod is taking so much time, because of correcting checksum?
If something happen to ecu then new/used ecu need only immo off to start engine?
Does ecu get bricked when writing virtual file fail?

I can confirm with my own experience, that kess 5.017 and ktag 7.020 clones are very good tools! You can use every protocol listed in 2.47 for kess and 2.25 in ktag, every job until now done! There was only once an issue, when i did audi s8 med9.1 master/slave, it doesn‘t finish programing because of wrong file size, but any ecu else will be done.
This cp45 will be done for sure, but the real risk is opening that sort of ecu.
That’s why you need genuine tools with bench function, which is working aswell on tricky edc16 ecus like edc16cp31.
But i will say, it is good to have also the clone tools, i had weird situations, for example audi edc16cp34, flex and autotuner fails to write second section, kess did it without problems….
