How to remove engine compartment Fuse Box ?
On a SLK250
Does anyone know how to remove "Battery Power Fuse Box A1725401150" next to the battery ?? Seems like some clips and then maybe pull up ?? Still hunting .150 amp battery drain. Pulled all the fuses and relays, and there is .150 amp drain. Maybe alternator diode ?? |

RE: How to remove engine compartment Fuse Box ?
what model year?
most newer ones have parasitic drains (usually <300mA) from all sorts of onboard stuff |

RE: How to remove engine compartment Fuse Box ?
Ridiculous, no vehicle should draw more than 50mA when everything is asleep, which can take up to 30 minutes.
If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons!
Thanks + reputation. |

RE: How to remove engine compartment Fuse Box ?
Car is a 2012 SLK250
Got the fuse box off. It slides to the rear while pressing two clip on the outboard side. To go back in, there is a carrier which can be removed, installed, and then the fuse box will go back in by sliding down. Complete failure on finding my battery drain. Fuse 23 is fine (had a drain the day before ??). But fuse 12 has .027 amp drain (Rear window heater, but A/C does not work with the fuse out), fuse 18 has .020 drain (This one I believe is required items) and there is an undefined drain of .150 amps. Total drain .197 amps. I have removed each fuse, each relay in front and rear, while also removing each wire on the fuse box. At this point I give up, I can not find the undefined .150 amp drain. This car kills batteries, at .197 amps that is almost 6ah a day, so 60ah in 10 days I believe I will have to install one of those remote battery disconnects.... |

A thermal camera is invaluable for finding parasitic draws, when the car has been off for at least an hour, the draw will be very visible just scanning the fuseboxes and harnesses.
Yes it could be a bad alternator, just repaired a Buick with an extra .120A draw, bad diode in the alternator. If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons!

RE: How to remove engine compartment Fuse Box ?
I was hoping that removing the wires at the fuse box, ruled out the alternator. But I am not 100% sure.
The undefined drain (.150 amps) does sometimes go away (just the other remaining .047 amp drain), or drift a little from .110 to .190 amps. I don't have a thermal camera, but if the drain is behind something, I don't see how that can work. Maybe on cool morning after the drain has pulled current all night. then maybe... |
