F31 437m rubbing on the rear, camber -1 ?
Hi everyone,

My F31 has adaptive m suspension so 10mm lowered from factory.
A friend of mine has the same wheels on M-Sport suspension.
Mine is rubbing on the rear where his is not.
We both have the same tyres, 275/35 rear and 255/35 front.
Mine is rubbing on almost every single speed bump, on his is rubbing only if he`s going aggressive into a roundabout with 4 people in the car, whilst mine is rubbing with only me in the car and on speedbumps.
Before trying 265/35 and 245/35 setup (already paid £450 for 2 275/35) I want to try setting the camber to -1.
Anyone knows a website where the default camber is shown?
Found online to do a -1 camber should be at around -2.4.

Thanks

First, you did not specify the rim size as well as whether rim offset (ET value) is the same between your and your friend's.

Second, M adaptive is much softer until put in sports mode than just M so it's quite normal to get rubbing easier when you put oversized wheels.

Third, I don't understand why would anyone do that. Not only you get rubs you also LOWER car's acceleration with higher diameter wheels!!! Rule is simple: with bigger wheel diameter you get less acceleration, but higher maximum speed. That is IF your car can STILL reach it due to less horsy powers.

9JX19 ET:29 Front and 10JX19 ET:40 rear. Same exact wheels and offset

I know is softer, I set sport only for chassis.

Is only for the looks mate, got them with a very good deal, £500 so I was why not. I don’t rly care about speed tbh, is only a 320d, is a daily runner over 200k miles and family car, baby car seat inside smile) so speed or bhp not a must for me, or acceleration. I stop at 72mph anyway smile

Thanks

RE: F31 437m rubbing on the rear, camber -1 ?
Your rear tires are:
1. about 17mm nearer the outer wheel arch
2. about 3mm nearer the inner wheel arch side
than widest factory tires horizontally. They are also nearer about 6mm vertically. You sure it rubs on inner wall? I would bet they rub on outer. So increasing camber (-1 > -2.4) will only WORSEN your situation!!!

For the looks - I don't really think anyone sees the width of the tire/rim that much. Unless you frequently drive over people so they have a good look from underside biggrin

So what options do I have?
265/35 on the rear?

265/35 will reduce numbers to 12mm and -2mm horizontally and 4mm vertically. I really don't know whether that will be enough. Ideally you would want higher offset on the rim. I mean factory offset even for narrower rims is 47. But that means new rims.

However your rims are 48mm wider than widest OEM and already go 12mm deeper (nearer the suspension) so you would need to check whether there is still enough space for proper offset.

Found someone with 437m on h&r and he did the camber with -2.4 and now it barely rubs. I might have to do the same alignment and check that way first.

Found out that I need different tyre sizes 100%
Here they are for my J and ET
437m tyre sizes for F3x should be:
245/35 & 265/35 for RWD
235/40 & 265/35 for xDrive
Zero rubbing even when lowered
