Hello everybody, I feel like a complete idiot asking for help on this matter as I made a very stupid mistake !!!


A friend asked brought me his Audi A5 from Japan and asked me if I could change the language. I said I would look into it first and then tell him if I could or coulnd’t. After some research I found that wrecking change in green menu and flash of eu software should be enough and would work.

So I went and downloaded firmware to update MMI

Original version was HNAV_JP_K0275

The problem is that I downloaded HN+ firmware and flashed it !!!

Now unit is half broken, I can start it go to the green menu but I can’t flash anything. It starts the process but ashen it should reboot, it just turns off. I’m trying to flash HNAV_EU_K0257_6

If I turn it on again, I’m back to square one.

I was walking myself, how about emergency update ? Will it work ? I not can I exit emergency update menu ? If yes, how ?

Any help is appreciated, willing to pay if someone can fix it or help me do it.

This will need UART connection, manual flashing of MU. JP variant is MU9309 and does not match any EU ones, so automatic recovery will not work in this case.
Also HDD needs partitions adjusted as newest EU maps do not fit anymore as JP NAVDB partition is 1GB smaller than EU one.
This is beyond some "remote" help really.

Hi, thank you for your input. Are you willing to do it ? I can send you the unit. Where are you located ? Or if you’re willing I could do by your instructions and uart flash it, and then répartition the hard drive. Unless some special tools are needed.

Just did it with navibulgaria yesterday remotely. Unfortunately to other commentators, Japan unit works with ECE software and ECE maps.

You use fdisk to correct the partitions, then mkqnx6fs to format them. Writing an image is the most crappy way to deal with this issue and a good way to create corrupted file systems.

hi, im currently having issues with jp unit, have got it on HNav_EU_K0257_6_D1 but cant install maps, i get error because of mu9309. if i go to gem and ignore variant i can get to the update menu but it wont let me put a tick on any of the boxes within mmi3g_ECE .
is it only possible the way you describe with fdisk and mkqnx6fd? do you have any instruction for this?

Hi, i accidentally flashed mmi 3g with 3g plus firmware. now I only have access with PuTTY. The problem is that the variant has changed and I can no longer load stock firmware. can anyone tell me which commands I have to give so that PuTTY ignores variant for flash from SD card? Thanks
