XZBMW  Coding with ISTA while car is running
Hello,

I want to convert my G11 from current oil change interval (30000km/24mo) to 15000km/12mo interval. Problem is that I don't have proper power supply yet to supply stabile power around 14v during coding.

My question is that is it possible to do this kind of conversion with vehicle running so that alternator would provide the power and maintain the voltage? Does ISTA even allow this to happen as vehicle is technically not in PAD mode. Even if ISTA allows it, would power down command at the end of coding be executed as intended or can it be bypassed by shutting vehicle down manually?

I have also attached a PDF with the action list that would be taken during the conversion.

RE: Coding with ISTA while car is running
With coding you dont need a power supply...just for flashing
You can run your engine for coding... just with dme you cant code with engine running

Thank you for your reply. The main question is whether ISTA is capable of performing it with engine running and run through all of its actions while engine is running, not in PAD mode.

ESYS and Tool32 would no doubt allow to do this, but does ISTA?

Maybe at conversion tab.. just give a check...
Esys is the correct tool

Yes, the procedure is in "conversion (coding only)" tab.

I would happily do it with Esys, but I haven't got one set up yet and actions list seems painfully long to do it manually in Esys. Oh, and I don't know my way around Esys just yet as I haven't used it.

RE: Coding with ISTA while car is running
the e-sys procedure to program and code takes only 1-2 minutes of total time before you actually start the programming session. well worth the time to set it up 1 time.

the follow up time to lock airbag, initilize windows/sunroof, start services, delete transport mode, teach in headlamps, initilize icm is also worth the time to do it as needed. ISTA process takes a long time sometimes and hangs.

if your just changing the VO, even easier to just read VO, save it, edit it, load it, activate it and write it, and then code the DME.

on some cars sometimes the DME will not take it the first time and will not save changes after coding. You can verify changes in FDL coding. Sometimes need to program DME also.

So, another idea to put out there. If I connect the jumper cables to another car that has its engine running, would it provide the current and voltage needed for stabile encoding? In theory it should, but I don't know what kind of cutoff systems the car has, if any.

You didnt read previus posts...for only coding its not needed the power supply...

Not even if DDE is being coded? Because it is during this measure.

Coding takes only seconds so you need to have veey poor batter if it fails while coding.
