ISTA+ 4.32.1 for diagnostics on latest I-step
My 2014 BMW i3 will go in for maintenance soon. I'm now running ISTA 4.32.1x from Sedoy, which is the latest without license. My current I-step is from a year ago (I001-21-11-510). I read that this is also the last I-step that is supported by 4.32.
For maintenance ISTA is currently suggesting a software upgrade as the first step, so I think the mechanic might update to latest I-step. With the latest I-step, can I still use the older ISTA for diagnostics and repair instructions? I don't need to do programming, just diagnostics. The I-step upgrade will very probably not solve the issue, so maybe I could ask to skip that part to keep ISTA functioning. |

RE: ISTA+ 4.32.1 for diagnostics on latest I-step
I've always assumed that if you update psdzdata to match (or be newer than) the I-step in your car that you should be fine with the same ISTA install. Maybe I'm wrong and someone can correct me.
I'm currently using 4.32.20 with psdzdata 4.39.10. |

You will get ISTA fault about unknown firmware version. And psdz data has NOTHING to do with this. You need new diagdocdb, and that needs new ISTA. |

I guess I'll just try then if it will mostly work. That would probably do just fine. |

For future reference: Mechanic didn't upgrade so I still have no experience with newer I-step on older ISTA versions.

If you don't want programming, you don't need to install psdz (i-step) database...
Install and use ISTA without Programming Database. |

RE: ISTA+ 4.32.1 for diagnostics on latest I-step
IMHO that would (usually) break much more than fix. DiagDocDb also make relations between car and which ABLs/SSPs/Everything are related to certain car. ABL dlls are linked to specific version of other libraries. So if you change one, you need to change another, or face issues. And in the end you need WHOLE NEW ISTA version
How much exactly would break, depends on how many ABLs are changed between versions. So, the number of issues will grow the bigger the difference between ISTA versions. These things are tied to specific ISTA version. They are not like psdzdata which is almost fully independent. |
