Is ENET cable enough for G30?
Hello everyone, I have a G30 5 series car.

I found ENET cable could do programming and coding with e-sys. Even after modified config, could do programming in ISTA standalone, so is it necessary to buy a ICOM or VCXSE? What advantage do they have for G30?(I only know ICOM could do parallel programming in ISTA)

Thanks for reply!coffee

RE: Is ENET cable enough for G30?
I have done full i-level upgrades with ISTA on G11 (S15A), G05 and G30 (S18A) with ENET cable. Everything went smooth without a single issue. Just make sure you have adequate and reliable power source hooked up to car when doing it.

EDIT: I used Sedoy's ISTA Standalone, as it is only release that supports ENET programming as far as I know.

One more question, is a 62A power supplier large enough for programming? And should I set the voltage to 13.8V?

60A enough
correct voltage is between 13.8V- 14.6V

I am tempted to try updating Ilevel but I only have Noco Genius 10A charger that has 12V supply mode. Why would the car need 60A to update its modules??

12v is not high enough either - ISTA will not let you proceed without minimum voltage of around 13.5v.

10A is not enough and will kill modules eventually - if all modules are running during programming then they ultimately consume power.

RE: Is ENET cable enough for G30?
It's NOT that modules THEMSELVES consume that much power. I'm pretty sure 10A would be enough for that. It's that there are PLENTY of things in a car, which consume many many amps of power: lights, electric pumps/motors, heating elements, etc. When car is being updated these are switched on eventually for unit self tests, etc.

So the question whether 60A are enough is quite meaningless. It DEPENDS on car options and car model, battery wear, etc. I would say it's bare minimum for quite EMPTY (options wise) car.

And on the new cars many modules are being programmed in parallel (normally). So when DME/DDE is finished updating it may switch fuel pump on to self test. When FRM is finished updating it may switch main lights on for self test. These loads will easily require 20-30A EACH. And other modules are STILL being updated when this happens.

ok. Thanks. Can you program with engine running except for DME/DDE?

No. Engine will SHUTDOWN as soon as DME/DDE is switched to programming mode. And ALL units are switched at the start of programming.
