New laptop for coding and diagnosing BMW and more
Hi i want to change my laptop (actual dell 6430 i5 3th generation 128 ssd and 320 hdd and 8gb ram) for something new or max 2 year old im interest in dell 7000 series. I do quick research and i know that, new versions have ram solder to mainboard and no way to change memory after purchase. Also ther is no way to use 2 disks so i need use one.

Is better to buy 16GB or 8GB is sufficient to my work ?
What capacity of disk i need 1TB or more? or external ssd on usb c ?

i plan to continue work with bmw and meaby vag cars because there is market in my hometown for that type of cars.

Thanks for answering

more memory is always better, so get the 16gb of ram. 8gb works just fine, too, but i’d get 16gb myself.

get 1tb internal storage. external works but it’s slower.

The computer you use now has good performance, you can maybe improve that, bring ram to 16 and change processor with I7 if the motherboard allows it, I have Lenovo with I7 and 16 gigs of ram and 256 ssd, and I'm happy with everyone current programs.

If my post helps, give Reputation [Image: under.gif]                                                                                                               Thanks [Image: under.gif]

Dell 5330 with 16Gb, 2TB NVMe and touchscreen. 2TB is for updating BMW ISTA databases mostly, you really need it. Ability to bend it into tablet mode is fantastic smile

First question. how do You will work.
If like "office style" = not in dirty workshop or running around in garage.
My other laptop is T410 from Lenovo, and I use it only because my esysx lisence is stuck in this.
This side of laptops are very unconvient to use, I hate this one.
My other is X230 from Lenovo. It is just right in dimensions. And fast enough.
harddisk = bigger the better. Specially is You are going to flash something, hdd must be very big. I agree with 1T. But:
In last 8 years I have broke 2 hdd's, in garage working. You will definitely in one day hit Your laptop somewhere, like it or not.
When I changed hdd to ssd in my X230 it became extreamly FAST. If it would be faster, i have no idea what would be benefits anymore smile
