Needles doesn't need to be removed for this, depend on what tool you use there is place for every pin for 160d eep to be done.
This is early 2010-2012 cluster for a F10/F11. CarTech Stockholm, Sweden

When you do dashboards dont be afraid from the needles , in this case they are easy do remove.
