Hey everyone.

I'm trying to code (VCDS) the ABS on the A4. I'm using the correct security code (61378), but the new coding just gets rejected.

I get Error 31: Request out of range.

It's only a short code, from 160000 to 164500. Tried several times but it just gets rejected.

Any ideas anyone?

31: Out of Range means coding is wrong or not supported by ECU

From what I could see on forums, you would need to tell more details, an auto scan before and after replacement at least, there are some smart folks around which could help you provided you give sufficient details.

He just might have installed a non-compatible ABS unit with his car.

ABS unit has the same P/N as the old one ?
If not, did you cross-refferenced the P/N in ETKA ?

There are different ABS units for quattro and non-quattro vehicles, the coding for one unit is not compatible with the other one and vice-versa.

If you (eg. by accident) got a replacement unit from the wrong vehicle variant, the old coding does not work and additionally, of course, the unit should not be used in the car with the wrong drivetrain type. The systems work different (AWD vs. FWD).

Not just AWD and FWD.

They are different from 4cyl to 6cyl and from TDI to TFSI.
